Qualcomm should equip Samsung middlemen with digital reader under the screen in 2019
Next year has everything for the trend of fingerprint readers under the screen to become even more popular, with Qualcomm and Goodix (MediaTek company) being the main responsible for providing the modules.
Information from sources connected to the supply industry reports that Qualcomm has already received orders for fingerprint readers under the Samsung screen, intended not only for line tops but also for some branded intermediaries.
In other words, the South Korean may be ready to finally discard the iris recognition solution, currently present in all its flagships.
The under-the-screen fingerprint bed is already present in several Chinese middlemen and line tops - one of the first companies to include it in a commercial smartphone was Vivo on the X20 Plus UD, which was launched in January.
Currently, devices such as Huawei Mate 20 Pro, OPPO RX17 Pro, OnePlus 6T, Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro and several others already have the solution.
To reduce the cost of production of the modules, Qualcomm will combine its mobile artificial intelligence training center in Taiwan, the resources of the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor laboratory in California, as well as the cooperation of Taiwanese manufacturers of TFT panels.
While the chipmaker - which has been forced by US courts to license patents to its rivals - is focusing on its partnership with Samsung, Goodix will focus mainly on providing solutions for Chinese firms such as Lenovo, Huawei, Xiaomi and alive.
