Samsung reveals resolutions and more details of the screens of its foldable smartphone

Samsung's foldable smartphone is already a reality! Or almost. Although it officially announced only the device screen during the event on Wednesday, the company confirmed that its smartphone is in development and should be ready for consumers in 2019.
As you may have already seen, the foldable smartphone will feature two screens: one small external and one larger, internal, foldable panel called Infinity-Flex. And on Thursday afternoon (08) Samsung revealed more details on the two screens of the device, including resolution, proportion, and size in a more closed event for developers.
According to what was revealed today, the external display of the device will be 4.58 inches in size with 21: 9 aspect ratio, HD + resolution (1960 x 840 pixels) and density of 420 pixels per inch. The internal, foldable screen has a size of 7.3 inches, 4.2: 3 aspect ratio, QXGA + resolution (2152 x 1536 pixels) and the same screen density as 420 pixels per inch.
While the internal display is obviously an OLED panel (since it is the only flexible technology), we do not know if Samsung should use the same quality on the external screen of the device, which, because it is fixed, offers both OLED and IPS LCD.

    Specifications

    • 4.58 "external HD + screen (1960x840) and 21: 9 ratio
    • Internal foldable OLED display of 7.3 "QXGA + resolution (2152x1536) and 4.2: 3 ratio
At first, the resolutions may seem low, but when we see the pixel density it is remarkable that this will not be a problem, but rather a solution.
By offering two screens and even a large internal screen, the device's battery could be drained very easily if Samsung adhered to the Full HD resolutions for the smaller screen and Quad HD for the larger one. As the density is higher than 300 PPI and the resolution is relatively lower, users do not notice screen jams and the display will consume less power.
